What’s the difference between nudism and naturism?
I don’t quite understand the difference between nudism and naturism. They are both used in reference to nudity. What is the real difference between the two? Is there one?
Some would argue that naturism is nudity in nature; on the hiking trails and along the natural streams and bodies of water wheras nudism is nudity in a wider range of environments wherever legal. To me, nudism seems less ambiguous and avoids the confusion that sometimes arises between naturalists (relating to such things as bird watching) and naturists. We sometimes see nudist/naturist but this makes it kinda long. Finally, I’d suggest that everyone just choose the one they prefer.

LikeDislikeI like “Nakedist” because I just like being naked, whenever, wherever. :)

LikeDislikeNaturist is a better term because it describes it with more meaning. Naturism is about about naturist then just about being nude.
My thought is basically they are the same thing. I interchange the words depending on who I am talking to.
Like geneh says,It depends on who you talk to. Some feel there is a difference. Different countries have different views on the two terms. In North America the terms seem to be interchangeable.

LikeDislikeEither or in the US. Europeans tend to dislike the term “nudist,” as to them is has some sort of negative meaning. In the US, too many people confuse Naturist with Naturalist, so many naturists just go with nudist as it is less confusing.

LikeDislikeSome argue that “naturist” emphasises contact with nature, and being naked outdoors, but I use them interchangably. You’ll also find that different countries tend to use different terms: in the U.S. it tends to be “nudist”, while here in the U.K. we use “naturist”. (And while we do enjoy being naked outdoors, we’re just as happy to get some nude time indoors. Especially right now, when it’s so cold out. :)

LikeDislikeHere is an article I wrote on the subject: http://www.socalnaturist.org/membership/what_it_is.html
They’re basically the same.

LikeDislikeI think the terms have gradually evolved possibly due to lack of understanding of true meaning. Now and days I suggest we just use the term nudaturist which is a cross between the two. He!He!
If one was to ask me the difference between the two: a nudist is a person who just goes without clothing and a naturist is someone who goes without clothing for spiritual reasons. Spiritually could even signify being one with nature while nudism could be as simple as lounging around the house nude or sleeping without clothes.
