What effects will social nudity have on my child while raising him in a naturist family?
I am a new naturist mom who has the desire to raise my child in a naturist family. From time to time I hear both pros and cons about the struggles kids face while trying to be “normal” along with the pros where these same kids don’t have to battle with image complexes. What effects will social nudity have on my child while raising him in a naturist family?
The effects for us has been confident, well behaved girls. Giving them the freedom to choose, while demonstrating proper behavior and being respectful, open and honest is always the best policy in my humble opinion.

LikeDislikeStudies show that it doesn’t affect them as long as it’s straight forward and honest. The primary motivation for inappropriate behavior in the textile world is a child’s natural curiousity mixed with inexperience. This is eliminated in this case.

LikeDislikeI would recommend a book called “Growing Up Without Shame.” Available from Amazon. It is a study taken of children who grew up as nudists. It says among many other things, that nudist children have a better body image of themselves, far less prone to teen pregnancy, and high self confidence than their textile peers.

LikeDislikeThe kids I see as I travel the AANR resorts are having a great time. Kids love to play naked. You have to carefully teach them to be ashamed of their bodies. And, of course, AANR members have all had backround checks to feed out the pervs.

LikeDislikeReally? I heard they do not run background checks on the members and I am sure that not all resorts check. But I agree – give kids the opportunity to run around naked and they are as happy as can be :)

LikeDislikeGrowing up as a naturist myself, I guess I did face a few of these “cons.” One family on my neighborhood street told another family not to let their kids play with us because we were weird nudists. (That 2nd family met us and promptly ignored the first’s advice.) I was also brought up to be careful about who I told, and worried about what my friends would think before telling them, but it was mostly unnecessary- they were pretty cool about it! I had a wonderful naked childhood, and I’m grateful to have been raised to be comfortable with my body and nudity in general. In a world of pervasive media images displaying an unattainable ideal, it definitely helps to be raised in the naturist community where you see what real bodies look like. Some kids are raised in such a nudophobic household, taught to be ashamed of their own bodies. Compared to that, naturism is so liberating!

LikeDislikeWe went with a combination of CO at home and nude resort trips/get-togethers in the summer.
The ‘pros” are pretty much universal to social nudist families: increased confidence, self esteem; and acceptance of others’ diversity. Not to mention comfort with nudity and others’. Being raised as a nudist, being nude was second nature to my daughter. The moment we pulled into the resort parking lot, she’d be the first to jump out nude out of the car. She’d usually also be the one to walk up to other ndist kids and befriend them.
Which also plays into one of the “cons.” Children talk; my daughter did as well as other parents’ I’ve spoken too. And the feedback is rarely positive. I guess you could say that the biggest “con” is in fact the outside world.
And then there’s puberty. Many kids drop out at puberty. Also a big “con” when youre so used to everyone being happily nude.
