Nudity Regulations For Nudists on Backyard Nudism?
Maybe these vary by location, but maybe you can give me a general idea… I’m not house shopping just yet, but wanted to know for when I do.
What are the regulations for being nude (or even Topless) in you own backyard? I grew up in a house with a very high walls separating my backyard from businesses so I never had a problem, but I know that most houses tend to have walls that are easy to peek over.
Have you ever had problems with neighbors taking offense to your nudism? Any thoughts or advice on this? I’d hate to buy a home and then find that I can’t even enjoy the sun on my skin in my own backyard.
You basically answered your own question–yes the local laws usually are what you want to be aware of, and yes they vary widely. I have always looked carefully at how much privacy a place affords us. In addition I have always given the neighbors a heads up, so as to prevent any mishaps, or misunderstandings.
In CA, if you have made a reasonable attempt at privacy, like a six foot fence around your back yard, you’re good to go. Italian Cypress is a great barrier to maintain privacy, and grows tall enough to block the view of even two-story homes that might be your neighbor. Perhaps a trellis of creeping vine along the fence will also keep little Johnny next door from peeking through the gaps in the fence.
Local laws prevail of course. But in most states (except Arkansas where any form of nudism is illegal) a reasonable attempt at privacy wins out. If some neighbor complains, ask them why they’re invading your privacy?

LikeDislikeFor my state as long as you have the standard 6ft wooden solid fence up and neighboring houses can not see in from any window be it by upper level or change in grade that allows their home to view into your yard, basically if they are only able to see you topless/nude by peeking through the fence slots its legal.

LikeDislikeIn my state, the law is fine with it if you’ve built up a reasonable expectation of privacy. An adequate fence or enough natural cover is good enough. A neighbor on his roof, peering through cracks in your fence, or hiding in your bushes doesn’t count.
I have dense woods behind my house and my neighbors on both sides know my wife and I are often naked back there. One doesn’t like it, but he does nothing to maintain the fence I paid for from his side. The other and his wife enjoy their yard the same way we do. I’ve gotten to the point that if I’m back there swimming laps and the lawn guy comes into the back yard, I keep swimming.
