What does it mean to be naked?
Mainstream media has it known that one can be considered naked just by wearing their underpants/bras. Typical male nudists generally imply being naked to be without their pants while some women without their tops. So…what really does it mean to be naked?
uhhh…to have no cloths on…but, I could be wrong

LikeDislikeInteresting question, actually. I once told a policeman that asked me if I had “been naked”, “No. I was wearing shoes.” Are you naked if you have a towel wrapped around you? Or, if you are holding it so that you cannot be seen, but are otherwise unclothed?

LikeDislikeIt means enjoying normally, but while sharing all the beauty of life instead of hiding it. That beauty thereby being the natural beauty of the human body. Big or small, it’s a way to show all of who you are and not hide anything like as if you were ashamed of your body or something.

LikeDislikehttp://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/naked This is Webster’s take on the word. I don’t generally use the word naked, preffering to describe myself as nude.

LikeDislikeThis is an interesting question, and one I never anticipated. I guess it depends on who you are, and your definition of naked. Then again, where you are, and what your local laws define naked as. I joke with my wife, and tell her “You are naked!” Her response is “No, I wearing air!” Do shoes make you un-naked? For some …Yes, and for some…No. Are you naked when showering, if your behind a shower curtain? I guess it comes down to a personal definition!
Oh please, that is NOT complicated at all to me–Naked is naked, without covering, exposed–no clothes AT ALL (period). Just because some squimish news casters want to redefine it is not going to change anything for me.

LikeDislikeWho cares. Wear however much you want.
I’ve wondered the same thing after learning that in Canada you can be wearing only shoes and not be considered naked! I personally haaate when the media uses naked in a fake way because it sensationalizes nudity and makes it seem more forbidden and illicit. Even with PETA with their fur campaign, where yes the person is “naked”, and yet they’re strategically covered, so, in my opinion that’s not naked.
Naked also has a connotation sometimes of embarrassment and vulnerability. You can feel “naked” and exposed while dressed. So I agree with Dave, nude is better and has a clearer definition I think! But in the nudism world, at least people can be sure that when we say “naked” we really mean naked! ;)
I looked up Naked AND Nude…they have the same meaning.

LikeDislikeI’m pretty sure that the words “nude” and “naked” are open to individual interpretation. As you stated, the media views toplessness (on women) as naked, I don’t. I think the media uses these words to get people to read their articles. Sort of sensationalistic.
My definition of naked/nude is when the “genital area” (since men’s genitals show and women’s don’t) is exposed.
As for shoes, to me that is more of a safety thing. I could go entirely nude, but I open my feet to being injured, which would not be a good thing.
My definition of nude is even a bit broader (or narrower?). To me it means unclad from neck to knees. A T-shirt only is bottomless. A pair of shorts or skirt only is topless. An unbuttoned shirt (sans underwear) is still nude.
