When I was in college we had to be nude in the swimming pool. The reason was the same as the requirement to be nude in the pool and hot tub at the clothing optional resorts. It was to keep the pool clean! Additionally we were required to wear swim caps. That was to keep the pool clean too along with the mandatory shower with plenty of soap. The pool was unbelievably clean because nobody did their laundry in, shampooed in it or bathed in it and that made it much nicer for swimming.

LikeDislikeAll clothing or swimsuits that have been washed, will contain small amounts of nitrates from the detergent, no matter how well rinsed. When these are allowed in the pool or tub, they make a breeding ground for algae.

LikeDislikeWhy in the world would you go to a clothing optional resort and then wear a bathing costume in the pool? You can go to any other pool or beach and wear a bating costume.
I think most nude resorts or clothing optional resorts realize that they must draw a line and insist on the nude use of the pool and hot tub, or risk their club losing its unique appeal to nudists.

LikeDislikeAs a previous pool service owner/provider, I can tell you that the chemical balance of nudist pools and non nudist pools is insignificant, absolutely insignificant. Sorry rabbitnbunny, but your comparing house flies to atom bombs. I knew which pools belonged to skinny dippers and which ones didn’t, not because of the chemicals or the cleanliness, but because of sunbathers. The idea of cleanliness does have an effect on “how you think” about the pool, and I will not discount that aspect…it’s like fresh linen on the bed. There may be some may be drawing the line as FloridaNudist stated. I am not really sure.

LikeDislikeI agree with rugby63 about the pool chemistry. I’ve been to C/O clubs where the chlorine level in the pool was enough to bleach your white sheets and I’ve been in textile pools where the chlorine level was negligible.
The rules exist partly out of tradition and partly to keep the non-serious nudists out. I don’t understand why people would want to wear a swimsuit unless absolutely necessary, but I personally don’t care if they wear one or not.

LikeDislikeGood question- I’ve asked this one myself! The answer that I typically receive is twofold: first, as someone else stated, the laundry detergent that you use to wash clothing inevitably holds some of the detergent in it after washing, which causes nitrates to go in the pool and increases bubbling in the hot tub. Second, the fibers that comprise the swimsuit may come off (think lint) and those fibers easily clog the filters of the pool and hot tub. Just one more reason why being nude is the smart choice. :)

LikeDislikeThis reminds me of the call I had with the maker of the outdoor hot tub that was installed at my mothers house, I called them to get the how to as far as set up, usage etc. And even they told me it is best to use it in the nude due to the soap etc that is infused in clothing. They said it is best to also rinse before using it. The only person who thought I was lying about what was told to me over the phone was my own mother, she thought it was just BS. But I always used it nude as did my freinds or they didnt get to come in, I told them if you want to sit in the hot tub fine with me but you better be nude.
One of the biggest problems at textile pools is the lint collecting in the pool filtering system. If nobody gets in the water with cloths on, the filtering system runs pretty much trouble-free all the time. But really, if you can’t get in the water nude, you have no business at a naturist resort.
